One of the classes in our school decided to hatch some duck eggs in their class. We were very fortunate that we could go and observe their progress as they went from egg to duckling. The eggs were placed in an incubator in order to keep the eggs warm, so they could hatch. On the first day we visited, none of the eggs were hatched. Ducklings have to stay in the eggs for 28 days before they hatch. On the second day we visited we got to meet 3 ducklings that were only 1 day old! They were very cute! On the third day that we visited there were 4 ducklings and they were 4 days old. They had grown so much! The last day we visited the ducks were 8 days old! They were waddling, playing in water and even flapping their wings to prepare for flight. Unfortunately this was the last time we saw the ducklings as they had grown enough to be moved to a farm. We hope the ducklings will be very happy there. |
