| Over the last month children have been busy learning and exploring airports! Students were exposed to a variety of activities as well as free exploration to help promote their learning. We began by creating a realistic airport in the comfort of our classroom. We had the students brainstorm what we needed and day by day we added these items/areas. We made a control tower, boarding passes, Tim Horton's, as well as airplanes to fly in so we could get to our destination. We added signs of different destinations around our classroom, so students could become familiar with cities around the world. We added a variety of learning centres to support their exploration. In writing, students were able to make their own passports and luggage tags. In math/science students made paper airplanes. The students flew them in the gym to measure the distance they went. We also learnt about different parts of the airplane by acting them out. |

Simrah- “To go through security you have take off all metal things.”
Abigail- “The pedals turn the plane.”
Bruce- “The left pedal turns the airplane to the right. The right pedal turns the airplane left.”

e were lucky enough to extend our learning by having two guests come in the class to teach about airplanes. First we had Mr. Lascelles come in and show us his model airplane and helicopter. Then we had a pilot come in and show us how he flies planes. At the end, we asked the class what they had learnt about airplanes/ airports. Here were their responses:
