During the past couple weeks, we have had some visitors in our classroom. Butterflies! The butterflies started out as caterpillars. Students were able to observe the caterpillars as they ate and grew bigger. We started to learn about the life cycle of butterfly, which students had a great interest in. They started to write books, make butterflies and even act out the life cycle of the butterfly. It was great to see them enjoy the topic.
Once the caterpillars grew enough, they formed a J shape and began to form their chrysalis. The students were able to watch the caterpillars actually spin their chrysalis. It was pretty neat to watch. They after a lot of waiting, the butterflies emerged! We fed them oranges and they really liked them! Once all of the butterflies had broken out of their chrysalis we let them go in our garden. Goodbye butterflies!
