Happy Chinese New Year to all that are celebrating! We were very lucky to have a guest parent in to teach the class about Chinese New Year. We learnt that this year is the Year of the Sheep. We also found out that the class was born in the Year of the Ox (2009). We got to see some Chinese decorations, which are coloured red and gold, that means good luck. We put some outside our classroom door so the class could be brought some good luck. Chinese New Year is celebrated between 10-15 days, beginning with a large feast on New Years Eve. The class was able to taste some Chinese dumplings! Yum! At midnight they start the begin the firecrackers! They are very loud and go on for a long time in order to scare away the evil spirits. The kids enjoyed learning about a new tradition!
