In French we had a small inquiry on birds. They learnt the vocabulary for different types of birds, as well as other vocabulary that went along the theme. They were able to apply this by writing short books in French! They were wonderful! I hope everyone had a chance to read those with their child. Along with writing we also had students explore bird nests in our science area, and make birds in our art area. |
In outdoor education we gave the students in opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of birds by getting them to work together to build a bird nest. First we got them to collect dry materials, such as grass and leaves. We then split them into groups. One group was in charge of the construction and laying out the dry pieces into a nest shape. The second group was in charge of making the mud. When both groups completed their tasks, they worked together to build their nest. It was not as good as a 'real' bird nest, but other children on the yard thought it was really cool!
