Over the past couple of weeks the students have been interested in learning about space. We created a space station in our dramatic play area. There was a mission control area, as well as a launch area, where students could build a rocket ship and fly to space. We made space helmets and students dressed up in space suits, using coats as space suits and backpacks as oxygen tanks. The mission control area had headsets so that they could communicate with the astronauts in space. The astronauts did a good job listening to the instructions of mission control. |
In our classroom we had a variety of space inquiry learning going on. In our science area we had the students order the planets from closest to the sun to farthest away. They did a great job. Miss Ana had also brought in some fruits, so students could see how big the planets were in relation to others. In our sensory bin we made moon dough (flour and baby oil). Students could experience what moon dough or moon sand really felt like. In music and movement we learnt about the orbit of the sun, moon, and earth. We got the students to act out the orbit so they had a better understanding of day/night, seasons and years. Lastly in language the students had to pick something that they would bring to space and explain their reasoning in writing. Some wanted to bring their families, others wanted to bring necessities, such as oxygen tanks or food. They all had really good reasons. Can't wait for you all to read them!
